First, it does not work at high altitude. Even with the highest grade butane, it refused to light once in four days at roughly 10,000 feet. Also, I don’t know how they can call it “stormproof” when getting it wet puts the lighter out of commission for days. It’s true that the case is highly water resistant when shut. But did Brunton think about the driving snow once you try to use it. Stormproof indeed.http://www.dhanwantarichits.com/userfiles/brunswick-gold-crown-manual.xml

brunton firelight manual, brunton firelight manual pdf, brunton firelight manual download, brunton firelight manual review, brunton firelight manual instructions.

My lighter has only worked at much lower elevations such as 4500 (my house). Also, my contact with Brunton support has been dissapointing. My request for help was written off outright. I was told curtly that it’s not designed to light over 9000 feet, or at least that’s what the girl remembered. I didn’t get the impression that she knew much of what she was talking about. Overall it does work under normal (car camping) conditions so I have to give at least two stars. It’s now in my “never use” pile. I use the cheap but reliable Bic lighter. I love it inthe winter. The piezo sparkers work fine, but the gas doesn’t seem to want to light right away. Usually after a half-dozen clicks the lighter will go, and will then start more often than not. After running for over 30 seconds, however, they generally won’t light until they warm up again. The non-torch Bic butane, of course, lights reliably every time. Fuel can be a factor. I found Colibri Premium butane to not work well with my lighters, including the Colibri lighter. I’d like to see a review of any windproof butane torch that somebody finds truly reliable under all conditions. I modified the covers on the butanes so I could get it out of the way to light wood fires. It sort of works OK up to 7500 feet but what I want is a real, sure-nuf torch. The flames on the butanes are not that long. No wear on the package does it say it is expected to be a high altitude lighter. I don’t know where people get this from, maybe cause it’s storm proof. If you think about the way it is designed, it’s the lack of oxygen and the burner that doesn’t allow this. I’ve been at the highest 9500 ft with mine and it worked. Had no expectations for it to do so, but I kept it close to my body and warm, and it fired right up, got a fire going on a cold winter day on the mountain. CAN”T COMPLAIN! Go buy a bic, I’ll use my Helios. When we work this out, Brunton will be the first to deliver. Thanks for buying the Firelight. At Essentialgear.http://www.eventsforhealing.com/editorData/brunswick-pro-bowling-ps2-manual.xml

com select Butane Lighters, Windmill Stormproof Lighter, and finally High Altitude. My Stormproof failed at 7,500’ before I read the article and noticed I still had over a 50% adjustment in the negative to increase oxygen content and decrease fuel. So my rating is tempered on hoped for results. I knocked it down to a 4 since it isn't quite as bombproof in the wind as I'd expected. This lighter has a particular way to be filled and a lot of people just don't understand it. Filled correctly it works fine. Filled incorrectly it doesn't work at all. I sent it back for repair, and again it worked well for a few weeks. It was sent back a second time, then a third, then a fourth. In addition, Brunton's technical support has been poor about responding to emails requesting return authorization numbers. Owning a Helios has been an exercise in frustration. When I bought mine, they had a lifetime warranty. Now I notice on Brunton's website that it's been reduced to one year. It's easy to understand why: It's an unimpressive piece of gear with unimpressive warranty service. That's a lot of Bics. For some background, consider the fact that I (disgustingly) smoke about 1.5-2 packs of cigarettes a day, and have been smoking for about 3 years. The Brunton Helios is without a doubt the best lighter I have ever come across. It has more or less been able to light on the FIRST press every single time I've ever used it- the only exceptions would be when I travel with it to lower altitudes and have to readjust the gas flow on the bottom. Remember, I'm a smoker and I use it many times every day. Regardless of price, this is the most reliable and efficient lighter I've been able to find as of yet. It's flame is hot enough to cut through an aluminum can or to singe all your eyebrows off if you've been drinking (be careful with it). Durability is probably what's most impressive about this product- I bought it almost 2 years ago and it still works every time.

Strangely, I've used other Brunton products and they were GARBAGE. Other reviews I've seen for the Helios said it sucked which is surprising- maybe they changed it recently. Mine worked for a couple of weeks at sea level in my house, and that was all I got out of it. What a POS. Worst money I ever spent. Would not trust my life on it. Be smart it's still a tool and tools break. Take a backup of some type. Either they got duds, or I got lucky. As discussed elsewhere, if you're complaining about it not working at 10K ft, complain to a physicist or chemist, and let them explain what's going on. My Helios works great. What do I like about it. Lights every time. Burns hot. Cap opens all the way. Deal killer. I wish it was smaller, though. The rubber edging doesn't seem to serve any useful purpose, and it makes it bulkier. I wish it was metal, because I'm often melting the ends of ropes and 550 cord, and I'd like to press the end against a piece of metal when I'm done to flatten the melted cord. Sorry to those that have had bad luck. I slipped mine to my brother at his wedding (he had to use it to light the uncooperative unity candle), and I'm buying another one now — that's how I found these reviews. I wish there was a decent competitor on the market, but there doesn't seem to be. I am rough on equipment and this unit was definitely no exception. This one had worked great for years. During this summer, after losing that little grill that turns red hot when lighting, it still worked fine for a month or two until one day. After a couple failed attempts at a double-back off a 45 foot bridge with this thing in my pocket, this thing failed to be waterproof. The piezo ignition system died out and has ceased to operate. Although, in all honesty, the lighter probably did give me about 5,000 reliable lights, much more than the guaranteed 3,000 or whatever the box says. I have since received a second unit. This one does not light reliably at all.

I have finally started to get it to where you can see the flame out the top of the torch, but that has only happened maybe twice out of 300 attempts. So the first one rocked, and I'd buy another of the first, but the second one that I bought (same model) blows. I did get it working for a few lights and was going to give it a four. Want outdoor gear and skills info you can really trust. Practically all outdoor activities require some kind of gear, and new products come along on a regular basis to make those activities safer, easier, and more fun. If there’s a challenge, it’s narrowing down the gift choices for your favorite outdoors enthusiast.Travel, hiking, concerts, sporting events—these and many more activities often invite a closer look at a distant object or scene. There are other kinds of optical instruments for distance viewing, like spotting scopes and telescopes, but the binocular is the easiest to use; no tripod required—just lift to your eyes and adjust. You don’t need to close one eye, as you do with a scope, and you get a natural “3-D” image.

Most experts agree that an 8x binocular provides enough magnifying power for the majority of situations, without the shakiness that interferes with the image on more powerful models. Brightness is determined by the front lenses, which are referred to as the objectives: the wider the lens, the more light reaches your eye. An 8x42 binocular (8x magnification, 42mm objective lens) is an excellent all-around choice. The Swarovski 8x42 SLC produces a gorgeous, tack-sharp image; for a less expensive choice, consider the 8x42 Monarch 5 or the Aculon 8x42 A211, both made by Nikon. For more information, see Chris Witt’s Binocular Buying Guide. They offer more power and brightness than binoculars, with zoom magnifications beginning below 10x and ranging to more than 60x, depending on the model, and objective lenses ranging from 40mm to 100mm or more. And because they’re almost always used with a tripod, vibration isn’t a factor. Higher-end spotting scopes include the Vortex Razor HD 11-33x50, the Leupold SX-1 Ventana 2 20-60x80, and the Bushnell Elite 20-60x 80mm, among many others. Natural features, scenic vistas, historic sites—and wildlife. Birding has become enormously popular, and the outdoors enthusiast in your life might enjoy having a copy of the birder’s bible, the Sibley Field Guide. Editions include Sibley Birds East (2nd Edition) and Birds of Western North America. A telescope makes a wonderful gift, and there are great choices in every price range. Its StarPointer Pro finder scope allows you to home in on the celestial feature you’re seeking, and offers a large 40mm window to give you a wide field of view. Its NexStar computer hand controller displays nearly 40,000 celestial objects and can hold up to 25 additional user-defined destinations. Kids can use them for backyard adventures; grownups like them as easily pocketable devices for viewing distant objects or scenes.

At the same price as the Vixen, the Pentax 8x42 is equipped with a larger objective and also features a waterproof housing for worry-free use in inclement weather. The Carson HookUpz Universal Optics Adapter for Smartphones lets you use your phone to capture the remarkable views in your binocular, spotting scope, or telescope. It fits most phones and any optical device with an eyepiece between 20 and 58mm wide, and its rubber pads glow in the dark for easier use in low light or after dark. The list of small cutting tasks you can use it for is seemingly endless: open an envelope, slice pepperoni, strip a wire, clean a fresh-caught fish, cut a bandage, whittle the rough bark off a stick to make a trekking pole—you get the idea. A well-made folding knife will last for years or even decades, and can easily be carried just about anywhere. The SwissChamp Pocket Knife is a marvel of engineering, packing 33 tools (including two blades, five screwdrivers, corkscrew, ballpoint pen, magnifying glass, and too many more to list) that unfold from a handle covered by the iconic polished red scales. Combining a multi-tool, a ratchet set, and a set of bits, the Victorinox SwissTool Spirit Plus features 14 implements that perform 22 functions. A pair of folding pliers is joined by wire cutters, screwdrivers, scissors, a serrated blade, a wood saw, a crate opener, and more. The Nitecore SRT7 Revenger Tactical Multi-Color LED is a really nice flashlight. Its output ranges from barely on to an incredibly bright 960 lumens, controlled by a smooth and solid Smart Selector rotating ring at the base of the head. It emits white, red, blue, and green light, and also offers strobe and beacon modes. As a huge added bonus, it’s waterproof and submersible to 131'. No such worries with the Pelican 3310PL Photoluminescent Flashlight: it glows in the dark. Its 378-lumen maximum output provides plenty of light, and it also has a flashing mode for emergency signaling.

The 3310PL runs on three AA batteries and will shine for a whopping 200 hours on the lowest setting. Like the SRT7, it’s waterproof and submersible, though to a much more modest 3.3'. Such moments call for a headlamp. Bushnell’s Rubicon Lighting H250L AD offers hands-free mobile illumination while packing up camp at bedtime or changing a tire on a dark country road. It has spot and flood modes, and runs for 12-161 hours, depending on the setting. Additionally, it can throw a beam nearly 300 feet. Every outdoors enthusiast will find plenty of uses for a lantern (including at home if the power goes out.) The AA battery-powered Black Diamond Apollo LED is portable, lightweight, and versatile—bright enough for evening campsite activity, but dimmable to a soft, pleasant glow for reading in your tent. The reviewers at Outdoor Gear Lab gave this lantern their Editor’s Pick award. It’s inflatable for use and will float if dropped in water, though it’s also waterproof. The unit also folds flat for convenient storage in a pack, bag, or emergency kit. The Spectra features eight color modes and runs for up to 12 hours. But that’s not all—it can also charge your USB-equipped mobile devices. The Lighthouse outputs up to 250 lumens, and can be hung by its folding handle or placed on its fold-down legs on a table or the ground.Even with the best sleeping bag and pad and a well-chosen site, you’re still lying on the ground. A growing number of campers are choosing a different way: sleeping up off the ground in hammocks. They sleep soundly and awake refreshed. And hammocks are much easier to carry than sleeping bags and pads, a key concern for backcountry enthusiasts. They’re lightweight but sturdy and pack down to a fraction of the size of a sleeping bag. All you need are a simple set of hanging ropes or straps and a pair of trees. And the same hammock in which you sleep in the wild works just as well for a nap in your backyard.

The Grand Trunk Parachute Nylon Hammock (Double) holds up to 400 lb and can be packed down smaller than a football. As an extra convenience, it comes with the hardware needed to hang it up. For sleeping outdoors during mosquito season, the Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter comes with a mesh canopy to keep the little beasts away. You’d be wise to grab a Grand Trunk All Purpose Rainfly to shelter your hammock from a downpour, as well. And for the ultimate in versatility, consider the Grand Trunk All-Terrain Hybrid Shelter, usable as a tent, tarp, hammock, rain fly, or sunshade. Campfire cooking has a romantic appeal, but building a fire and establishing a bed of coals is time-consuming. Use a camp stove, however, and you can be chowing down in minutes. The Optimus Crux Weekend HE 3-Piece Cook System is a backpack-friendly option that comes with the burner and a hard-anodized aluminum cooking pot. Just add a fuel canister and you’re ready to cook. For car camping, when portability is less of a concern, the Primus Profile Camp Stove makes cooking outdoors almost as easy as cooking at home, with dual burners and click ignition. (The camp stove is also a handy accessory for a backyard grill, and both camp and backpacking stoves can be important gear in emergency situations, such as power outages.) A GPS unit, like the Garmin Etrex 30 X, doesn’t require a signal, let alone a data plan. It communicates directly with satellites and can pinpoint your position on a world map to within about 15 feet. It also rivals a phone for battery life (25 hours on two AAs) and offers added functionality as a compass. Plus, it will survive being dropped in water. The old-school navigator will enjoy the World’s Best Compass from Brunton, which features a rare earth magnet in a composite body with silicone sealing, making it both weatherproof and resistant to interference and depolarization.

Hikers, hunters, and backcountry skiers often make use of two-way radios, and others who finds themselves and members of their party in different locations may find them helpful, too. Motorola’s Talkabout MD207R radios have a range of 20 miles in ideal line-of-sight conditions and 1.2 miles in dense urban environments. They also get NOAA weather stations and come with rechargeable battery packs. Knowing that severe weather is coming can make it possible to avert disaster. It even has an ultrasonic dog whistle to alert canine search-and-rescue teams. And while its built-in battery will last 32 hours between charges, you can also use six AA batteries as a back-up or recharge the battery with a hand crank or a solar panel. The ER310 can even charge your phone, and it does get AM and FM radio—in case the outdoors person in your life gets a little homesick for civilization’s chatter once in a while. The down has a fill-power of 900 cubic inches as measured by the EU norm (and is equivalent to 970 cubic inches using the US standard). The Firelight 450 has a full length zip that lies on the top of the bag. The zip is protected by a single baffle. There is a neck collar that can be adjusted to close completely around the neck to provide a complete seal. The Firelight 450 comes in three sizes and is supplied with a compact stuff sack and a large storage bag. Typical use: The Firelight 450 is an excellent all-round bag. It has enough down fill to be useful for lightweight summer alpine climbing or mountain trekking at altitudes of up to 4000 metres. We believe this bag to be the most versatile of the range. Both the quality of construction and the quality of down in Lightwave 's Firelight range of sleeping bags ensure that these bags achieve superior ratings when tested to the European EN 13537 standard.

Aside from this obvious quality we like some of the design features, for example the full length zip is on the top of the bag rather than the side - this seems easier to use somehow - when testing a Firelight 450 I could find the zipper much more quickly, and because it starts at the top of the bag I was less likely to turn over leaving it underneath me. Another curious point was the lack of zip snag, every bag I have ever used snagged at some point, but the Firelight never did. I could quite work this out - but I note the zip is a smaller gauge than usual - which could be it. Buy these bags and you are buying quality. - Reviewed by Ultralight Outdoor Gear Read reviews here: Help and advice: Construction The construction describes how the down is held in place (otherwise all the down would fall to the bottom) and what features are incorporated to maximise heat retention or, conversely, regulate your temperature. A bag as light as the Firelight 450 does not need to have sophisticated features as there simply isn't enough down for it to be expected to perform in very cold temperatures (although it is certainly better than having nothing). Although there are lighter-weight versions of the Pertex Quantum fabric we are using, they offer a negligible saving in overall weight and, having a lower tear strength, are easier to damage.
