The PowerSeeker Alt-Az mount is easy to move wherever you want to point it. For the 60AZ, 70AZ, and 76AZ the up is an erect image model that corrects the image to be right side up and oriented correctly left-to-right which is much easier to use for terrestrial observing. The PowerSeeker 50AZ comes with a 1.5x erecting eyepieces, primarily for daytime terrestrial viewing. Figure 2-17. Aligning the Finderscope. Some telescopes, known as refractors, use lenses,.and other telescopes, known as reflectors (Newtonians), use mirrors. Developed in the early 1600s, the refractor is the oldest telescope design. You can determine the magnification for your telescope the same way. Using the example in the previous section, we can determine the field of view using the same 20mm eyepiece that is supplied standard with the PowerSeeker 60AZ telescope. However, to understand your telescope more thoroughly, you need to know a little about the night sky. You will never see the stars complete one circle because the sunlight during the day washes out the starlight.Observing the Sun. Our PowerSeeker Series telescopes for astronomy beginners have been designed with a combination of value, quality, power, and user-friendly features. They are built to enhance the experience for beginners but are also exceptional for mid-level experienced astronomers. This 70AZ telescope features powerful magnification and easy-to-use controls that allow users to obtain crisp views of the Moon, the rings of Saturn, and Jupiter’s Galilean moons. The telescope’s sturdy and durable yoke mount and slow-motion rod deliver smooth and accurate pointing. The 3x Barlow lens is added to triple the magnification power of the included 20mm and 4mm eyepieces. We’ve included an accessory tray to store accessories conveniently and a free download of our BONUS Starry Night Basic Edition astronomy software with information on 36,000 celestial objects, printable sky maps, and more. The software can be used on your Mac, PC or laptop. It’s the best way to learn about the night sky and plan your next observing session. Additional accessories include a tripod. You’ll also receive a 2-year warranty and unlimited access to technical support from our team of US-based experts. Tom Johnson founded Celestron in 1960 after building a telescope to share the night sky with his sons. Celestron telescopes are used by scientists in world-class research observatories and even aboard the International Space Station. The package also includes an Alt-Azimuth mount with adjustable aluminum tripod, high and low power eyepieces, a 3X barlow lens, and a 5 power cross hair finder scope. The PowerSeeker 70AZ comes disassembled in a compact box, but the fully illustrated quick set-up guide makes it easy to assemble.

Go ahead and try it out in the daytime, that's the best time to align the finder scope while looking at a distant tree or telephone pole. The optics of the PowerSeeker 70AZ are surprisingly good, especially when I use the low power 20mm eyepiece. The correct image prism and the 20mm eyepiece give me a magnification of 35X, so backyard birds seem five times closer than with my seven power binoculars. The PowerSeeker 70 can be upgraded with standard 1.25 inch telescope eyepieces. A 25mm plossl eyepiece for example gives a true field of view of almost 2 degrees for delightful views of star clusters like the Pleiades, while a 6mm eyepiece provides a magnification of 117X, just right to see the rings of Saturn or the cloud bands on Jupiter. The included 4mm eyepiece (175X magnification) might be too much power: I can see Saturn's rings but at 175X it's not easy to focus and it's not easy to keep planets centered in the field of view. The Alt-Azimuth mount included with the PowerSeeker 70AZ is lighter and easier to use than an Equatorial mount, but it does not track stars and planets. As soon as you get the Moon centered in the eyepiece it starts drifting toward the edge, this is caused by rotation of the Earth. The Moon may stay in the low power eyepiece for two or three minutes, but with the high power 4mm eyepiece (175X magnification) a star will disappear in only twenty or thirty seconds. Celestron's PowerSeeker 70AZ is a real value because it has very good achromatic optics in a package that's light, portable and affordable. The drawback is that it has a lot of plastic parts, including the finder scope and the 3X barlow.Configuration: Telescope Only Click here to make a request to customer service. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. AT73 5.0 out of 5 stars My sister just sent me a text saying they saw Saturn and Jupiter.I have to say that I'm very impressed, it's definitely worth the purchase. I took the attached photo of the Jan 2019 lunar eclipse - the images the telescope rendered were incredible. This photo I captured simply by putting my iPhone camera lens on the telescope lens. Great starter telescope! So we have only been looking out through our picture window so far. When trying to use the 3x tube, it doesn't seem to line up correctly and sits loose, extra time is needed to adjust as image won't line up with eye piece. The side viewer to aim at objects is adjustable, but it won't adjust enough to align with telescope. What sold me was a review mentioned being able to see rings on Saturn, we can't even get the thing to see Mars, and using the higher powers makes focusing difficult, so getting the craters on the moon clearly is difficult. Guess you get what you pay for. Wouldn't recommend for anyone other than beginning kids.I bought this in 2013 for my kids and only used it twice. Both times were to view the moon, which was not that hard to focus on. Most recently it was to view the lunar eclipse. The photo was taken with my camera phone through the eyepiece, which was quite a challenge in itself. If my kids were more interested in astronomy I would likely purchase a higher model, but for now this will do:-)She loves seeing the surface of the moon. My husband and I were also very excited to see Saturn and it's rings over the weekend. Easy to assemble, fun to use. Hopefully it's a great start to a lifetime of exploring the cosmos for our daughter. We all love it ??. Fairly easy to use. No issues. Saw clear across to the next city. We already have a spectacular view of Mt. Rainier but looking through the telescope ?? put us right on the mountain. We also watched a beautiful lunar eclipse. Will need to wait for clearer sky to see planets. But the stars ? are amazing.

My son could navigate it on his own. Bought a couple books to help him find objects in the sky. I would recommend this product for a child but really for the whole family to enjoy ??The optics are excellent and viewing the moons of saturn was just the beginning of our fun. I say this is a great scope for backyard astronomy!Barely jupiter. Barlow Lens come with the telescope show nothing. It is out of focus. Celestron I guess doesn't care about, since most people buy this item for the kids under 10. Another disappointment from CelestronViel mehr Feinheiten allerdings nicht. Die Ringe sind allerdings nicht differenziert. Auch den Saturn-Mond Titan konnte ich erkennen. Bei Land-Himmel sind die Ergebnisse sicher noch besser. Ich komme mit dem Stativ gut klar. Vielen Dank.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Sorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again My 10 yr old daughter and i have worked out how to use it easily and have viewed Venus and the crescent moon. The extra detail lens doesn't work but we may not be viewing the right thing with it yet. Light weight and looks super smart. A great starter telescopeSorry, we failed to record your vote. Please try again Moon, Mars, Saturn, Jupiter, Venus are very easy to find and watch. 2. There are 20mm and 4mm eyepieces inside and a 3x Barlow lens. Please do yourself a favor and order a Celestron lens and filter set to maximize yhe quality. The ones delivered with the telescope are not very good for high quality image, more like for testing. The Barlow lens is also for pure demonstration. I ended up ordering one extra for ca.40 Euros to watch our gas giants in better quality. I would recommend it for any beginner to get to know the basics of astronomy like the fact that planets are not flat ??Sorry, we failed to record your vote. My son and I had this thing fully assembled and seeing the moon within 15 minutes of opening the box. It works awesome and is better than I expected for what I paid.I bought this for my grandson for Christmas. He was thrilled. We had a clear starry night, saw lots of constellations and even got a glimpse of Venus and Mars. I would have rated it 5 stars if the instructions had been better written. They were very vague and left a lot for your imagination. Other than that, it was good value for the money. However, I didn’t like the tripod as it’s not stable enough. Also, it only comes with only one 20mm lenses. Not nearly enough to see objects in the sky. Lastly the instructions manual is really thin and the CD instruction manual, it should be online really, says nothing about the 80 AZS model or about the lenses as well as other features. Oh did I also mention that someone was using my account to post a 5 star review on this product. Yes, someone did it. I wonder who? So, no. No more powerseekers for me.

Probably the best telescope for the price ( This is Saturn btw)It is advertised to have a CD with a program to assist with your star gazing. I would anticipate not having that be useful when you purchase the telescope. I have tried multiple times installing the software online and via CD - no luck. Review of support website and community forum shows others having the same issue. I cannot find a solution. Guess I will have to do my own research on it. Shame on Celestron for not having a program that seems to work with windows or providing better support. Hopefully telescope works better than program. As of now - giving it a 1 out of 5 but may be better once I do my own research on it.Probably need to get a separate lens kit. With provided lenses can see distinct markings of Jupiter but very small.Sorry, we failed to record your vote. All this adds up to a telescope that gives you a lifetime of pleasure with a minimal amount of maintenance. In addition, you will also be able to see the moons of Jupiter as they orbit the giant planet. Saturn, with its beautiful rings, is easily visible at moderate power.

Remember that atmospheric conditions are usually the limiting factor on how much planetary detail will be visible. So, avoid observing the planets when they are low on the horizon or when they are directly over a source of radiating heat, such as a rooftop or chimney. To increase contrast and bring out detail on the planetary surface, try using Celestron eyepiece filters. Although overlooked by many amateur astronomers, solar observation is both rewarding and fun. However, because the Sun is so bright, special precautions must be taken when observing our star so as not to damage your eyes or your telescope. For safe solar viewing, use a proper solar filter that reduces the intensity of the Sun's light, making it safe to view. With a filter you can see sunspots as they move across the solar disk and faculae, which are bright patches seen near the Sun's edge. The best time to observe the Sun is in the early morning or late afternoon when the air is cooler. To center the Sun without looking into the eyepiece, watch the shadow of the telescope tube until it forms a circular shadow. Deep-sky objects are simply those objects outside the boundaries of our solar system. They include star clusters, planetary nebulae, diffuse nebulae, double stars and other galaxies outside our own Milky Way. Visually, they are too faint to reveal any of the color seen in long exposure photographs. And, because of their low surface brightness, they should be observed from a dark-sky location. Light pollution around large urban areas washes out most nebulae making them difficult, if not impossible, to observe. Light Pollution Reduction filters help reduce the background sky brightness, thus increasing contrast. It may be helpful to have two people working together: one viewing and instructing which screws to turn and by how much, and the other performing the adjustments.

IMPORTANT: After making the first, or each adjustment, it is necessary to reaim the telescope tube to re-center the star again in the center of the field of view.
