Not long after buying the bronco, I got in an accident with my Volkswagen Jetta, and totaled it. Well, I was not obligated to drive the bronco to work every day, there was no other choice. In that regard, we were lucky to have bought the bronco when we did. After the first day driving it though, I realized it was one of the most fun things I had ever driven. It was beastly enough that I could put my foot in it and get through traffic, and boat-like enough that it always felt smooth, like it was floati. Small rust spots develop in the floor corners from the leaks that may develop from the convertible seal that may end up needing repair and the 4wd shift motor gets a little sticky sometimes requiring a trip to the shop or a smack with a big hammer in order to get it to comply and work correctly.First was a bit of nostalgia. My Father owned a Bronco the first year they came out, so it was a bit of remembering the good times and wanting to share those with my kids. The other reason was for the benefits a four wheel truck would offer - being able to go off roading, go to the snow without fear of getting stuck, camping, or just long trips together. This Bronco offered room for my family, enough room for everything we wanted to bring, and comfort for my wife and I. It had a larger engine so I could tow anything I needed and that came in handy when I moved my kids into their college dorms. Gas mileage sucked, but that was expected with an 8 cylinder engine and I did not buy it for the mileage. It was the bigger Bronco, so I felt safe wh. (more) First was a bit of nostalgia. It was the bigger Bronco, so I felt safe whenever I was traveling. But it was still, at least it appeared, small enough that I could fit in most areas without fear of hitting anything. Due to its size, I also felt very safe when riding in it. My prior car was a VW Bug and sometimes I was a little fearful, especially on long trips competing with the big rigs. Sitting higher than most (after I put on larger tires) I really felt in command of the road and in command of my driving.

Loading up the Bronco (not necessarly unloading) became a family chore that we all did together. The off-roader comes with retro styling and cues, much to the please of the purists. However, one other thing that made the Bronco exciting was the prospect of a manual gearbox mated to the drivetrain. The initial leaks had suggested the presence of a seven-speed manual transmission, and now that the Bronco has made its debut, the same is confirmed - as long as you don’t go with the Bronco Sport, which is only available with an automatic transmission. As time passed, more information about it came to light, and now that the SUV has debuted, we know for sure it’s present. Back in 2018, Jalopnik had reported that Getrag had been working on a manual gearbox for the Bronco since 2015. Dubbed as the MT88, this seven-speed gearbox was said to be paired to the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine. The new gearbox is rated for 405 pound-feet of torque and is capable of use in all-wheel-drive configurations. To draw you a comparison Car and Driver reported that when you pair the shorter 3.06:1 low gear of the optional two-speed transfer case and the shortest 4.70:1 rear axle with the Bronco’s first gear 6.588:1 ratio, it tops out at 7 mph in low range and 21 mph in high range. The Wrangler, on the other hand, is also good up to 7 mph in the low range but can go up to 29 mph in high range.

Ford’s latest off-roader can cruise at 80 mph all day long in its top gear with the engine spinning at 2,400 rpm; 150 rpm lower than the Wrangler. There was also news of Ford engineering a lockout mechanism that would prevent you from going into the low gear unless you’re in four-wheel drive mode and have the transfer case in low-range, but we don’t have clarity on this aspect yet. The 550 stands for the torque in newton-meters, which is 406 pound-feet of torque when converted. Ford, however, calls it the MT88 internally. The fact that Ford got this seven-speed specially developed for the Bronco speaks volumes of the sales numbers they’re expecting. The long-term reliability of this gearbox will be under scrutiny because the Mustang’s Getrag six-speed manual isn’t a fuss-free unit. Also, it seems highly impressive on paper, but we’ll reserve our opinions until tested in real-world conditions. In terms of engine specs and mechanical equipment, the Bronco is versatile and caters to a wide audience. Even if you take the crawler gear out of the equation, you still get six gears for cruising on the tarmac, which is more than sufficient for a vehicle that won’t do very high speeds. For off-roading, that one dedicated gear for low speeds will make the experience a lot better. Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below. Also has new Goodyear Authority 31x10.50r15 tires with less than 100 miles on them. It has 160,800 miles, the odometer has rolled over only one time in its life. It runs and drives great. Price is negotiable. The original owner passed and this sat for a couple of years before I took possession of it. It has had new quarters patched in and new paint about 6 years ago. It is presentable but wont be in the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance anytime soon. The transmission was replaced at 179k in 2018 with a remanufactured one from AAMCO in Layton. Yes I have the paperwork. I also went ahead and replaced the shifter cable. Now, here is what has been done to it within the last 300 miles. For the front end and steering I replaced the upper and lower ball joints, new tie rods and drag link, new sway arm bushings and end links, new steering box and pitman arm, new pro comp ES 9000 quad shocks front and back, new pads, rotors, calipers, and abs sensors. Previous owner did the a-arm bushings. I was informed the rear brake cylinder was leaking so I had them do a complete rear brake job with new drums, shoes, cylinders etc. The cooling system has been replaced with the following: New radiator and cap, new hoses, new heater core, new water pump, new thermostat and housing, and fan clutch. While this was out I went and put in a new timing chain and gears as well as timing cover. While the timing cover was out I put in a new harmonic balancer and oil pressure switch.

All hardware was replaced with stainless steel bolts aside from the stud kid. The stud kit is new, just not stainless.I removed the throttle body and installed a new gasket, throttle body positioning sensor, fuel pressure regulator, and idle air control valve. The tank was drained of the old gas at pointS, new fuel filter and i went and had them do a fuel pressure check and the pump is doing what it needs to do with good pressure. If you opt to put the auto lockers back in I installed a new transfer case motor for an easy transition. New front wheel studs and lug nuts. I also put in a new winshield wiper motor and wipers. Widshield was replace from the previous owner. New Motorcraft battery and terminals. I installed new window belt weather stripping, door handles, and the courtesy bulbs while the panels were off. Yes, the rear window works on the dash switch, not the key switch. Everything on this truck is stock all the way down to the cassette radio. I have the original owners manual and warranty card. There is ZERO mickey mouse wiring.anywhere in this rig. I did have to crimp a new pigtail to the widshield washer resevoir and the drivers side courtesy lights. They were crimped with brass wire connectors and heat shrink tubing. What it will need is a new carpet kit or vinyl flooring. The previous owner took out the cargo area flooring and put in some type of bedliner paint. I dont think I'm forgetting anything else. Needs new tierods but those are included. Needs coolant temp sensor but its included. Needs battery. Dad bought it new and it's been an ongoing project. Did light wheeling in it but didn't get beat on. No lockers. Had to park it for a few years and that's when the rust started in on the body. Paint is pretty much shot. Good start to a project. I just don't have any time to get it back to the former glory. Can be registered with vintage plates. Reasonable offers considered. Text please. It has some issues. First the water pump leaks. I replaced the water pump, thermostat, and all the hoses. I believe I didn't get a good enough seal on the water pump because that is where the coolant is leaking from. It has been sitting for the entire summer and now it won't start. I believe the fuel is bad but don't have time to drain the tank and see if that's the problem.

This bronco runs well and is a great car. It just needs more time then I have to fix a few small issues Own a rugged piece of history and a collectors vehicle. All the parts listed below have less than 1,000 easy miles on them since installed. I just keep wrenching instead of driving it while trying to achieve perfection. It has 67,000 or 167,000 miles (who knows?) So many new parts, it doesn’t really matter. It runs good and with the vintage plate so does not require emissions testing. 4-wheel drive, lights and everything else works. I drove it to work this week and have been driving it around town. Goes down the road at 65 mph pretty straight. Pretty much complete and almost ready for paint. Couple of days of sanding and some other minor prep to get it ready to paint. That’s all the good stuff, because I am brutally honest, come and see it or call me and I will tell you what is left to be done to make it perfect. Please don’t text me. I have receipts for most of the work and photos of all the body work.We just don’t use it like we used to and don’t have time to keep up with it. Starts very reliable. This older redhead goes by the name of Bessie!! Bessie has been ridden hard and put away wet on many occasions and never complained. She has many hard, rough rides left in her. Just like any redhead, she won't be the prettiest in the neighborhood, but all the neighbors will envy you for her willingness to get just downright dirty with you wherever and whenever. Bessie has a lot of character, she's not afraid of abuse. Lately I haven't had the time to ride her the way she deserves to be ridden, she just sits in the driveway, depressed. Someone needs to help her. She's powered by a 5.0 (one of the best and most reliable motors Ford ever made). She's got an auto tranny and manual hubs. Ball joints, tie rods and outer U-joints have less than 10k miles on them. It's an easy job, just messy. I'm willing to negotiate, but don't low ball me. I will definitely consider a trade for a good running 4x4 truck. Let me know what you got It’s had a lot of work to get it where it is now. It’s got a 6” lift with 35” tires on it.
