The bridge is linked and powered by direct multicable connection to the rear of the mixer and its side screw supports allow angling to suit the user. Rear connection panel. Apart from two stereo headphone sockets mounted on the front, all connections are compactly located on the rear panel. There's also a red LED situated above each input fader that flashes warning of likely overload of the input stages. A switch allows selection of the signal before or after the channel fader, or from the tape input (i.e. pre, post, tape), with gain and pan controls provided for each channel. The EQ section replaces the normal bass (mid) treble controls and offers lower and upper centre-band frequency control from 80Hz to 1.2kHz, and 800Hz to 12kHz, with boost and cut of 12dB using the gain controls. At first, the section is a little awkward to use, but soon becomes an attractive alternative because of the increased control it allows in tailoring the frequency response.http://www.easymexx.de/userfiles/concept-iq-installer-manual.xml

Hums and hisses are easily removed and large tonal changes to the input signal can be made. The metal chassis supporting controls. Additional 'Buss In' sockets with gain control are provided on each of the group lines (A, B, C, D) and also on the Aux buss, but with no level controls unfortunately. The quality is exceptionally good, with little background noise and high gain (maximum 100mW to 8?). Finally, two good quality stereo RIAA preamps are built into the 350 mixer and accessed by dual input and output phono sockets on the rear panel. These will appeal not only to disco users, but to electromusicians who often refer to records during their studio work but don't have room for a separate hi-fi system. Internal view showing the main RCB. Conclusions The 350 mixer is very well made and despite its 'plastic' feel, is built to last, on a rigid metal frame internally, with one large PCB holding most of the circuitry. Even input sockets feed directly to this board. Phono preamps and Monitor Select switches each have their own PCBs, and the transformer (not toroidal) is screened, with PSU fuses located next to it. Servicing is quite straightforward as the whole chassis lifts out, once fader knobs and four long screws are removed. Knobs and switches are all well made and the only point was some stiffness at the top of the end of the faders (only apparent on my review model, it appears). The rear connections certainly allow much of the routing you'll require to be prewired, but once the meter bridge is attached to the mixer, there is quite a hassle accessing the jack and phono sockets, especially if you use short connecting leads to your A-8 tape recorder, etc. One answer, of course, is to use a separate junction box linked to the mixer from which access can be made more easily.

Incidentally, no leads (except for a fixed mains lead and bridge multi-way lead) are provided; and the medium impedance of the system limits lead length to under 10ft before hum and high frequency losses may occur. The bridge also has very little angle to manoeuvre once all connections are made. But it's still an advantage to have, particularly for its large illuminated VU meters. And, of course, it's so small that it fits in any situation. I would have liked a built-in oscillator, although with plenty of synthesisers in my studio, it is easy to line up meters using one of these as an external source. A second foldback and monitor level control would have been useful, but Fostex have obviously kept their design to a sensible minimum. Operation of the mixer is quite straightforward, with overdubbing, tape mixdown, foldbacks all easily done. A small but comprehensive manual explains the alternative ways of using the 350. Fader attenuation is good with no breakthrough at minimum, and cross talk is claimed to be 65dB at 1kHz. The most important features of this instrument are not only its versatile routing, but its good low noise operation plus — now that CB is here to stay — its minimum RF pickup, yet still giving plenty of gain at the input stages. If you need a small mixer that will maintain your off-tape quality, the 350 is highly recommended. The Fostex 350 Mixer is distributed in the U.K. by Bandive Ltd, (Contact Details). Give it a try and see what you think. It's not the worst thing out there.I really like the 350.

This one looks brand new. After years of being boxed up,I find just a little Radio Shack cleaner and lubricant does a fine job on the pots and faders. The EQ is not much on the board but I have external EQ anyway. So to the question as to if the mixer is any good,I would say yes it is. I find the meters on the mixer are not reading correctly.I haven't run any pink noise through the mixer yet.Does anyone know where I can find a service manual on the 350. Thanks in advance for any help. Had a really bright punchy sound, I remember the big boys at the Cleveland commercial studios commenting on how I got such a good sound and saying how impressed they were with Fostex mixers. Its worth fixing but for a couple of hundred you could probably find something newer with more channels and better features. You probably wont find any better sound anywhere near the price though. I know I tried when I bought my Fostex. I tried a EV, a tascam. With all the mixers available these days I dont know if its adviseable to spend a lot on repairs on such a small mixer that old. Good luckI then moved on to a Peavey brand new 24 channel mixer and wondered where the punchiness and high end went from the sound I was used to. The fostex 350 has a great sound.Would love to hear from an owner on how it impacts the sound.Would love to hear from an owner on how it impacts the sound.I'm using this with powered KRK speakers. Can anyone show me a picture of their set up or explain how to go about getting it connected?I was given one that turned out to have a problem with one channel. It's not the worst thing out there. My power light will not turn on and I think it might be a bad fuse. Thanks for your help! It's an amazing old-school mixerAnother option would be something like a used Soundcraft Notepad-12FX, but I'm not a fan of buying current entry level products. I would love to hear more thoughts from someone that's still using one of these Fostex mixers!!

I would love to buy and use this as a DJ mixer as well as a production mixer but I think I can't use the EQs on the phono inputs and have a stereo channel under one fader.Memorials, RIPs and Obituaries Grove Park, Maidenhead, Berkshire SL6 3LW.Hosted by Nimbus Hosting. The VU bridge works with all channels minus one as you can see in the picture it stays in its resting position when prompted with signal. This mixer is a part of the left over inventory. I do my best to describe all items in detail so when the item arrives, you get no unexpected surprises or disappointments. With my 100% feedback record, I pride myself on giving my buyers the same detailed descriptions, great packing, and excellent service I expect when I am the high bidder. Read this description in detail:This mixer was purchased back in the late 1980s. We used it for a year or so, and then put it on the shelf. It was a great mixer in it's day, but after years on the shelf, it is not what it once was. The test equipment indicated there was a hum in All knobs are there and the caps are attached and look great. It hasn't had any extensive use or abuse. It has just aged from shelf life.If you bid on it, I want you to know that we did find a hum on the audio when monitored with headphones, but that the mixer looks great and the VU meter bridge is fine. It sounded to me like a ground loop and might be easily fixed, but I don't know that for sure. As for documentation, the link for the on-line manual is noted above. You can download the manual and it will answer all of your questions, I'm sure. If you have some technical ability, I'm sure the hum problem can be resolved and the mixer would give you years of great service. There are no XLR connections. The VU meter bridge is detachable, tilts for easy viewing, and is fully adjustable with the tension knobs on each side.If you have any questions, ask. Your questions are welcome and will be promptly answered.Shipping is based on a weight of 24 lbs to a USA buyer. No international shipping. I just don't feel the mixer would be worth the bid price plus the shipping costs. Thanks for looking. View cart for details. Reserve a good 30 minutes with the seller, so that he can show you that all is indeed functional and sounding good. Carefully observe how the setup functions and looks, noting any damage, missing parts, strange noises etc. Note that parts from Fostex are non-existent but there's a way around that. If the seller can snap a sharp, clear, closeup pict of the heads, post it here and we'll tell you as far as wear. It's good that the manual is included (and hopefully a service section). Be wary of the 15 reels of tape included. They may be bad, from the sticky shed days.It was a good machine to learn on, but mine was falling apart and getting it fixed was going to cost several times its worth. So I got a TSR-8 instead. Basically, you may be lucky, but remember that it could be up to 28 years old.But I see is that you get the mixer for the price, which is balancing my price argument. Take care. You should google around to see what fostex spare parts are about before you open your wallet. Half inch machine might be better, but quarter inch is a lot easier to get tape for. Far as I can remember Fostex is good. It might be a lot safer and simpler just to get a stereo quarter inch for mastering instead? ---The mixer really is a deal sweetener, though. Not that I need one, but it'd be the first step towards getting a PA unit, which is always nice to have for rehearsal purposes.I used my fostex machine for combining sound effects and i had terrible problems with bleedthough, even after getting the heads adjusted. So i now use 2 Track stereo machines for all of my sound effect editing. All i need to get now is another Uher 4200 Tape recorder so i can start recording again xD P.S i record engine sounds from Bulk Carriers, Container ships, stationary engines and all kinds of steam engines.

Also the TSR-8 is a gazillion times better than this fostex and much more recent. Just make sure you check it all out very, very carefully, as per my previous post. You are indeed lucky. Oh wait, there's more in your area. This would be my 2nd choice over the fostex. Been trying to get ahold of someone at fostex to get replacement buttons but no luck yet Its a really easy to use digital 8 track, even though its more like a digital 6 track casue 4 of the channels are split into 2 dedicated mixdown channels, you can still record on them only on the left or right channell, if you want stero you take up two tracks, other then that a great piece of euipment. I needed good quality, cheap recording gear for my demo fast, and the mr-8 seemed to deliever in all of the reviews i read on it. I absolutely love the ease of use. I was able to record as soon as i got my compact flash card (a 128MB card comes with a new unit for storage, but i bought a 512 MB compact flash card because i heard the 128 wasnt enough space.

Plus, since i bought mine used, it didn't come with a card) It works hand in had with my computer, all i needed was a regular USB cord, the software for tranfering tracks straight from the fostex website, and a demo of Adobe Audition 1.5 (30 day trial) for mixing which by the way is awesome. I got very professional sounding recordings. It's a good idea to invest in a seperate mixer to hookup to the mr-8 so that you can feed in more than 2 mics at a time and have more control over the sound than you would have with just the unit itself. For my demo, i used a berhinger because they tend to have decent quality gear for a fraction of other brands equipment. The mastering effects on the mr8 are pretty admirable for the low price. You MUST look at the list off of the fostex website to make sure you're buying a good compact flash card (if you chose to buy one with more storage, which would be smart)that is compatable with the mr8 because not all of them are. There's a built in mic on the unit, but it's smart to hook in your own mic. I personally use audio technica for my budget. I've dropped it. more than once to say the least from tripping over cords and what not, and it's held up just fine. The quality is great, i couldnt aske for more. I love my unit and even if i could afford it right now, i don't believe i'd be purchasing a bigger unit simply because of the ease of use and portability of the mr8. It uses batteries for added portability if it so suits you which was an attribute that i really liked. The sky's the limit on this powerful little machine and my home recordings have reached CD quality level because of this unit. This review was originally published on Did you find this review helpful? yes no. This unit is great for rough mixes. It is compact and very user friendly. Its easy to set different points in a song as reference points so you dont have to search all day long to find a certain point in a song you are working on.

Its also nice if you want to go somewhere (like out in the woods) because it can run on batteries and has a built in mic. Mastering effects and reverb are decent. I play many instruments including guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass guitar, didgeridoo, jaw harp, keyboards and various types of flutes. All come through fairly decent with the MR-8. The included flash card is way to small for just about anything. This recorder is really only good if you have a decent computer to hook it up to. I use Cakewalk studio pro and bounce back and forth between the two so the card isnt an issue for me. If you dont have that option you will definately need a bigger flash card. With 8 tracks(you have to bounce tracks 1-4 to track 5, then record 1-4 again to get all 8 tracks) you are looking at a 3 minute song and no more. The guitar distortion sucks unless you want a very digital sound, then its OK. I've had this unit for about 6 months and have had no problems. It seems to be well constructed for its price. The best way that I have found to get a (close) professional sound is to mike all your instruments or amps and go from there. I also do vocals by running my mic to my PA then using the line out to the recorder. This is a great recorder for the price or for use as a scratch pad. But getting high quality recordings although possible, requires some work. Bought to do some simple home recording including drums, keyboards, bass, guitar and vocals. The price for this unit is exceptional. Price is great for the unit and the built in effects are very good. Easy to operate for someone who is not technically very proficient. Digital recording is so much easier than the old cassette types I used to use in many ways including ability to cut and paste and find your spot. Also, the interface with the computer is very easy making it simple to burn CDs. I also liked the fact that I was able to take all my old cassettes and convert them to.http://darrellpugsley.com/images/boss-br-600-user-manual.pdf
