One is a two wire secondary coil, while the other is a three wire booster coil. Both should be used together in your gas clothes dryer. The screw is approximately half an inch in length and is a Phillips-head screw. The main reason you would replace this screw is if the old screw is missing or damaged. This part is sold individually and is an OEM part sourced directly from the manufacturer. Once the internal temperature of the dryer reaches 220 degrees, the heating element cuts out. Common Dryer Problems and Repairs How to Troubleshoot a Kenmore Elite Gas Dryer That Won't Heat What to Do When an Electric Dryer Won't Turn on A Frigidaire electric clothes dryer is subject to the same common problems as any other clothes dryer. Perhaps the dryer does not start when you turn the start switch. The dryer might run, but it does not get hot. Maybe the motor runs, but the drum does not spin.

All these problems are easy to troubleshoot and repair, even for a beginner. No Heat A dryer that runs but does not heat up is a common problem and one that is easy to diagnose and repair. The heating circuit of a Frigidaire dryer consists of a heating element, a high-limit thermostat, a thermal fuse and an operating thermostat. Many dryers require the removal of the dryer's rear panel to access these thermostats; however, with a Frigidaire dryer, you need only to open the top panel by releasing the two spring catches at the front right and left corners. To release the catches, push them toward the rear of the dryer, using a putty knife. To test a thermostat, remove the wires from one of the connectors and one of the meter's probes to each of the connectors. A good thermostat will display a “0.000” on the meter's LCD. A defective thermostat will display a “O.L.” on the LCD, indicating no continuity. To test the heating element, remove the wires from its terminals and test between the terminals, using the digital multimeter. A good heating element will display a resistance of 10 to 20 Ohms on the meter's LCD. Like the thermostats, a bad heating element will display a “O.L.” on the LCD screen. The thermal fuse is a safety fuse that opens when the high-limit safety thermostat fails to open. Test the thermal fuse the same as a thermostat. Not Enough Heat This is one of those problems that point you directly to the cause. A dryer that does not get hot enough indicates an operating thermostat or high-limit thermostat that is opening at too low a temperature. Thermostats can be tested for their opening and closing points; however, it requires specialized testing equipment that only the professionals can afford. You are better off replacing both thermostats. Does not Tumble A Frigidaire electric dryer that heats up, the motor runs, but the drum does not turn is another problem that can be self-diagnosed.

The cause of the problem is a broken drum drive belt, or a badly stretched drive belt. To replace the drive belt, open the top panel and remove the front panel of the dryer which is held in place by screws at the top right and left inside corners of the dryer. Noisy Dryers A noisy Frigidaire electric dryer is a symptom of worn front drum glides, a worn rear drum support bearing or a seized idler pulley. To repair these problems, replace the defective parts. Replacing the rear drum support bearing or front glides requires opening the dryer and pulling the drum from it. When replacing a seized idler pulley, it is a good idea to replace the drum drive belt at the same time because the old one will have been stretched or burned. Ray B. 5.0 out of 5 stars Took about a couple of hours and got to learn how relatively-simple, but tedious it is. Search for videos on YouTube on how to take your dryer apart, but it seems like MOST dryers are the same. Basically, - disconnect the dryer from power - in the back, remove the rear access panel to reach and remove the belt from the motor assembly - in the back or front, remove any bolts holding the top cover and remove it - in the front, remove bolts from the top and disconnect just enough wires to remove the electronic board assembly (where you make your dryer selections) - in the front, remove bolts from the TOP and BOTTOM (lift up the entire dryer to see these bolts) and INSIDE to remove the entire front panel, lifting and then pulling it away - in the front on the top, remove the plastic drum guide - in the drum assembly, remove the bolts holding the drum to the rear bearing assembly (three center bolts); I recommend something that can generate a LOT of torque for this step - lifting the drum and guiding it out through the front of the dryer - cleaning up any lint.I recommend having GOOD tools. I took mine apart using a PC repair kit and a Leatherman, which works up until you remove the drum from the rear bearing assembly, because those bolts are TIGHT. (I ended up using a power drill to loosen those bolts.

) I also did this myself, but I recommend having someone to help you out, especially with bolting the drum back into place, since you have to hold the drum up WHILE you bolt the three bolts back. (I propped the drum on my knees and adjusted as necessary, but this part was a pain.) I also highly recommend that if you do this, replace the rear bearing assembly too. Opening up and closing this thing in its entirety takes a while, so you might as well get that done too. I'm hoping this will last me another 10 years. This was a cheap and relatively easy fix. I considered just getting the element for less money, but this was an easy solution. You just remove the old and plug the leads into the new. Mine screwed back on with the orignal holes and screws. I diagnosed this problem by physically examining the heating element. I pulled out the drum and when looking at the coil there was a break. It's obvious once you get in there. Be sure to save the old high limit switch. That might die someday and you won't need to buy a new one. While you're in there, it's worth the time to add some high temp lube to the ball joint on the drum. This will keep the drum tumbling smoothly and not squeeking. You should also examin the belt for excessive wear. It's helpful to have a second pair of hands to for mounting the new sheild. Someone to hold it in place while you screw it in through the back.I was able to replace this part myself in less than an hour. The dryer works great now, and seems to dry a little faster with the new element. The old element lasted almost 10 years, hopefully this one lasts just as long.If you are changing this out you might as well change the rear bearing too as you are literally right there and it's just as easy. I did the main bearing last year and KNEW I should have done the element to but I had not ordered it at the time. I did get another year out of it but in the end I spend another hour pulling the unit apart (again) to install the heater once it DID fail.

The actual installation of the replacement heater was four screws and four electrical connectors. Simple.I paid less for this than I paid the repair man to come out and tell me I should buy a new dryer. What a jackass. With my lovely assistant (my wife), we fully disassembled, cleaned, rebuilt, reassembled and repositioned the dryer in our tiny closet laundry room in about two hours.Everything fit and plugged into it like the original part. Have used it on several drying cycles now and it works exactly like the original did. Local store had the part which is usually my preference but amazon had it for half the price. Seems like a good quality replacement that will last until the dryer dies. Just find the part number and manual for your dryer and make sure it matches exactly before you buy.Works great. There are several things you can take a look at to try to determine the cause of your Frigidaire dryer not heating. We’ll walk you through how to check things out. You may be filling it with too many items at once. When your dryer is filled to capacity with wet clothes, they don’t always have enough space to allow sufficient air circulation. Without proper air circulation, your dryer cannot dry efficiently. If you have a dryer not drying clothes in a reasonable time, this could be why. Use an appliance brush and a vacuum to get the lint and debris as cleared out as possible. It’s important to also check the vent on the exterior of the house to make sure it is clear and allowing unobstructed airflow. The thermal fuse is designed to blow if the dryer gets too hot. Use a multimeter to check if the thermal fuse has continuity. If it is defective, replace it. When you have a dryer not heating, the heating element may have failed. If the coils are damaged or no longer work throughout the entire dry cycle, then your dryer won’t maintain enough heat and your clothes won’t dry efficiently. If any of the coils are broken or otherwise damaged, they will need to be replaced.

If the coils are intact, use a multimeter to check for continuity to ensure they are working properly. If either method indicates the heating element has failed, replace it. If the ignitor has burned out, the dryer won’t be able to generate heat. This is not terribly uncommon, especially if your dryer has been used for years. If the ignitor has failed, replace it. MSRP is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price and may not necessarily be the price at which the product is sold in the consumer's area. The problem can range from something as simple as an obstructed dryer vent, to something as complex as a blown heating element. No matter the reason, a dryer that doesn't dry clothes isn't much help to anyone. Learn basic troubleshooting and repair tips to see if you can get your Frigidaire dryer working without calling in a repair technician. Always remember to unplug your dryer before performing repairs. Try drying a load about half the size of your typical load and see if it dries. Often, problems arise when the dryer is too full. If your dryer won't even turn on, there is likely a problem with the power. Make sure the dryer is securely plugged into the electrical outlet.

Check your breakers or fuses to make sure a breaker hasn't flipped or a fuse hasn't blown. Climb behind the dryer and use a screwdriver to remove the screws holding the plug access plate in place. Make sure the plug is properly attached to the dryer and wires are tightly fastened by the screws. Look for any signs of burning or wear on the plug itself. If you see signs of wear on the plug, replace it with a new one. A clogged lint tray or dryer vent can decrease your Frigidaire's ability to effectively dry clothes. Remove the lint tray and clean out any lint. Move around to the back of the dryer and disconnect the dryer vent from the exhaust port on the dryer. Disconnect the other end from the exhaust port on the wall. Shake out any lint from the vent. Use a can of compressed air to blow the vent clean. Do the same for the exhaust port leading out of the house. Slide a putty knife between the top panel and front panel, and slide it toward the center of the dryer to disconnect the retaining clips on the top panel. Lift the top panel up. Move the knife along the inside edges of the front panel, and lift the front panel up and off of the dryer. Disconnect the door switch wires and slide the front panel to the side. Disconnect the drum belt from the motor pulley, and raise the back end of the drum. Slide the drum forward and out of the dryer. The thermal fuse is a safety device designed to blow if your dryer gets too hot. It's located in the back right corner of the dryer, attached to heating element housing, and looks like a round piece of plastic with two wires coming out of the ends. Disconnect the wires and remove the screw holding the fuse in place. Screw a new fuse into place and reconnect the wires. The thermostat is a round piece of metal and plastic, located next to the thermal fuse. It regulates the temperature of your Frigidaire dryer. Disconnect the wires leading to the thermostat and remove the screws holding it in place.

Screw a new thermostat in place and reconnect the wires. The heating element is the internal component that actually generates heat within your dryer. Look at the element coils and see if any are broken. If none are broken, the element is fine. If one is, it must be replaced. Remove the thermal fuse and thermostat from the outside of the heating element housing. Disconnect the wires running to the heating element. Remove the screws holding the heating element and housing in place. Lift the housing out of the dryer. Install a new heating element and housing, and screw it into place. Reconnect the wires and reattach the thermal fuse and thermostat. Doing so creates a serious risk of injury. Scott has a J.D. from Emory University and is a member of the Utah State Bar.
