We also have a guide to recirculating systems and some helpful FAQ's at the bottom of the page to help you find answers for many questions you may have.Speed adjustment of 3-speed pumps should not be done while the pump is in operation. The motor and the pump are made as an integral unit without the need of a shaft seal and only two gaskets are used for sealing. The pump has a ceramic shaft and radial bearings with a carbon thrust bearing. The bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid. Pumps housings are made in cast iron, bronze or stainless steel for use in appropriate liquids and water conditions. The impellers are made of a durable, corrosion resistant, PES (30% glass filled). These can be installed in both vertical and horizontal lines. If you are replacing an old Grundfos recirculating pump, you may not need new adapters. They're made for whisper quiet operation for sound sensitive conditions. These pumps are of the canned-rotor type, i.e.http://flexi-cms.com/uploads/ftm400dr-manual.xml

pump and motor form an integral unit without shaft seal and with only two gaskets for sealing which helps to extend pump life by keeping foreign debris out. The bearings are lubricated by the pumped liquid. Speed adjustment should not be done while pumps are in operation. Variable speed pumps can be set for variable speed operation or can be set manually to operate at one speed. The motor output can be set to run at a variable speed by either voltage or current. These pumps can be installed in both horizontal or vertical piping installations. If you are replacing an old Grundfos recirculating pump, you may not need new adapters. Click here to see the timer and thermostat install info and specs. We do not recommend ordering thermostats for use with Line Cord models - click here to learn why. But not as much as most people think. On the recirculating system we highly recommend insulating all of your hot water pipes. An electric tankless water heater doesn't use any energy when you're not drawing hot water. You can click here to read more info about the thermostat. It can be set in 15-minute increments, mounts right onto the pump, and is the best timer we have ever seen. You can click here to read more info about the timer. If new liquid is brought into the system it will bring air with it and over time this will rust out a cast iron pump. There are many different sizes and types of pipe.Having said that we do want you to realize that every pump has a specific function. Meaning, for example, a circulating cast iron pump isn't generally for domestic drinking water. Every pump also has a specific flow rate, etc.The timer only allows the pump to turn on at certain times. So if you only need hot water in the morning, you could set the timer for 6am to 8am.

Then the pump would only recirculate the hot water during that time. The thermostat turns off the pump when the water in the pipes reaches a certain temperature. So once the water in the pipe is hot, the pump turns off. When the timer and thermostatic controls are installed together, in series, the circulator operates ONLY at the preset clock times specified by the user AND ONLY when the temperature conditions of the thermostat are met. That is, if either the timer control or the thermostatic control switch is open (off), the circulator will not operate. My problem is that I have to pump it up about 20 feet and I only have 40 psi. Just make sure to get rid of ALL of air in your return line and design your system so that no air will be in your line. Branches off of the main hot water supply should be kept as short as possible. Unless you have extremely oversized the pump (which wastes a lot of energy), trapped air in the return line can damage the recirculation pump. With these Grundfos recirculating pumps, air removal from the pump can be accomplished by releasing air from the chrome slotted plug located on the front of the pump. IMPORTANT: This chrome plug must NOT be removed. This chrome slotted plug is to release air from the pump only, not from the entire circulation piping system. After the system is charged with water make sure the power to the pump is turned off. Position a bucket under the pump because water will begin to stream from the plug as the air is released. Slowly unscrew the chrome slotted plug counter clockwise, until small bubbles of air and water appear. As soon as tiny bubbles or water appear, stop unscrewing the chrome plug any further. Allow all the air to escape. When only water streams slowly out of the pump then you will know the air has been purged. Tighten the chrome slotted plug clockwise.

To prevent air from collecting in the return line, slope all the pipes so air will flow to the high point in the return line and then put an air vent there so you can release the air periodically. Utilizing AUTOadapt ensures the pump only runs when required. The result is maximum comfort with lower wait times for hot water, reducing water and electrical waste. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Kindle Customer 2.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately the instructions for attaching the pumps sensor to a pipe are very poor. I am not sure which pipe to connect to and ended up trying 3 different lines (recirc return, recirc out, and hot water out) and none seemed to cause the pump to work properly. I have tried to track down any sort of instructions or a white paper that describe how the sensor works and where to connect it. I have had no success. I have contacted the Seller, Grundfos, and of course, done a lot of Googling to try to find something. I have used Grundfos recirc pumps in the past and like them but I cannot recommend this model. If anyone from Grundfos reads this, please let the product manager know that a white paper discussing the Adapt mode would really help.I have looked online and all theyt talk about is how good it is. There is another person who is having the same issues as me. On the instruction manual there are pics onl. There is nothing to figure out where the sensor goes.

Mine does not pull out and is jammed. I spent 2 days trying to figure this product out.The item was easy to install because I was replacing a Grundfos pump that had failed, so I had the fittings I needed. If a similar unit is not being replaced the fittings will need to be obtained separately. These essentially are compression fittings that attach easily to the pump.I can recommend this one, and would purchase it again if needed.Did a work around by using a cheap 24 hour timer to turn unit on and off at desired time. So now it works like the unit it replaced! So far, after about 2 weeks of use, it is able to predict demand and adjust to run according to demand. However, I've also noticed that during off demand hours the pump provides adequate hot water. This AUTO calibration function is worth it for the pump alone. Will see how this holds up, but looks like everything is an improvement.
