The American Heart Association (AHA) defines this target as 60%-75% percent of your maximum heart rate. Y our maximum heart rate may be roughly calculated by subtracting your age from 220.

Y our maximum heart rate and aerobic capacity naturally decreases as you age. This may vary from one person to another, but use this number to find your approximate effective t arget zone. For example, the maximum heart rate for an average 40 year-old is 180 bpm. The t arget heart rate zone is 60%-75% of 180 or 108- 135 bpm. See Fitness Safety on page 19. Before beginning your workout, check your normal resting heart rate. Place your fingers lightly against your neck, or against your wrist over the main artery. After finding your pulse, count the number of beats in 10 seconds. Multiply the number of beats by six to determine your pulse rate per minute. We recommend t aking your heart rate at these times; at rest, after warming up, during your workout and two minutes into your cool down, to accurately track your progress as it relates to better fitness. During your first several months of exercising, the AHA rec- ommends aiming for the lower part of the t arget heart rate zone-60%, then gradually progressing up to 75%. According to the AHA, exercising above 75% of your maxi- mum heart rate may be too strenuous unless you are in top physical condition. Exercising below 60% of your maximum will result in minimal cardiovascular conditioning. Rest and reduce the intensity next time. Fitness Saf ety The target heart rate chart indicates aver- age rate zones for different ages. A variety of different factors (including medication, emotional state, temperature and other conditions) can affect the t arget heart rate zone that is best for you.The warranty period to the original purchaser is listed above in the table. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.

For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program. Doc Goodbyte 2.0 out of 5 stars Carriage tube was damaged (pinched or warped)in shipment and assembled seat carriage would not slide onto the carriage tube. Unusable as as arrived. Getting it back into shipping box was a nightmare but was accomplished. Getting it shipped back to Amazon was another nightmare. They had it listed in the on line catalog weighing only 9 lbs, when in fact it weighed 141.5 lbs. UPS refused first time to pick it up due to weigh discrepancy(originally delivered by FedEx Ground), finally able to get UPS to pick it up after many phone calls and emails. This was NOT one of my best experiences with Amazon. Note that heart monitor is not in the recumbent seat handles but are in the bent forward handles. Not a deal killer for me, but might be for some.It has a very high build quality, is easy to put together, and is very sturdy. It is quiet, not like some others I've tried. It is also comfortable. I can't think of any single thing that I'm either unhappy or disappointed about. Well, perhaps the manual could have been more detailed as far as operation. But, quickly 'messing' around with it for a few minutes, it was easy to tell that a better manual wouldn't have been needed anyways. Good luck everyone, GeorgeSo after having struggled putting the many pieces together, the seat couldn't be mounted on the bike.

Shipping it back to the sender will be a nightmare because the pieces won't fit back into the box, and the box had to be pretty much demolished in order to get the main bike part out of it. The plastic casing for the handle bars was cracked also. I think that is a potential flaw in the design. A stronger material should be used there. I bought the bike because the review I read said that it was easy to assemble. That is not the case, and one needs to be very strong to lift some of the parts. Owner’s Manual. IRONMAN 430r RECUMBENT.
