Buy the Janome 7025 now at JohnLewis.com! The Pros Good selection of stitches 1-step buttonhole Portable machine The Cons Needle threader can be tricky to use A few flimsy parts Janome 7025 Overview The Janome 7025 is a robust, reliable 24 stitch mechanical sewing machine, which includes a nice range of features. It is a very popular machine, and in fact is one of the best selling sewing machines on the John Lewis website, just behind the John Lewis Mini. The 7025 is very easy to use and comes with a very clear instruction manual, which makes it a great choice for beginners. But it also has a large enough selection of stitches and features that you are unlikely to feel limited by this machine as you improve and move onto more complex projects. More advanced sewers are likely to be satisfied with this machine as well. Main Features The Janome 7025 sewing machine has the following main features: 24 Stitches 1-Step Automatic Buttonhole Drop-in Bobbin Needle Threader The Stitches Let's take a look at the stitches first. This is a pretty good selection for a mechanical machine, and should meet the vast majority of people's needs. The full selection of stitches is shown in the picture below. The 24 Janome 7025 stitches The maximum stitch width is 5 mm and the maximum stitch length is 4 mm. Comparison with the Janome Sewist 525S The Janome 7025 is almost identical to the Janome 525S sewing machine, and as far as I can tell the only real difference between the two models is the design. For that reason I would suggest shopping around and going for whichever model is cheapest. For more information about the 525S model, have a read of my review of the Janome 525S.http://enerjimakine.com/tsrm1/img/userfiles/1704-modem-manual.xml

The Details Stitch Quality and Speed I am happy to report that the stitch quality of the 7025 is very good, although perhaps this is not surprising as stitch quality is generally very good on Janome machines. Motor The 7025 has a 75W motor, which is relatively powerful. It should be handle to handle a few layers of heavy fabric such as denim, but always make sure you are using a suitable needle. And just bear in mind that it is not a heavy duty machine, unlike the Singer 4411 for instance. Bobbin System The 7025 has a drop-in top loading bobbin system, which some say is less likely to jam than a front-loading bobbin system. The transparent plastic cover also means that you can see how much thread your bobbin has left. You can drop the feed dogs on this machine using a small switch located under the free arm towards the back of the machine. Presser Foot System The Janome 7025 comes with the following presser feet: All Purpose Foot Zipper Foot Blind Hem Foot Overedge Foot The machine allows you to adjust the presser foot pressure, which can be a blessing when working with light materials. This is done using a dial on the left side of the machine. Needle Threading The 7025 comes with a needle threader, which can be great is you have poor eyesight or often struggle threading the needle. It can be a little tricky to use at first, but with a bit of practice it does making threading a lot easier. Design The 7025 is a sturdy, well designed machine, which feels like a quality product. It has a few flimsy parts, such as the needle threader and the presser foot release lever, but generally the build quality is very good. It is also very lightweight, weighing just under 7 kg. This makes it very portable. If you have an existing vintage or industrial machine which is very heavy, the 7025 makes an excellent portable second machine.

Accessories In addition to standard accessories such as needles, bobbins and a quilting guide, the 7025 also comes with a hard plastic cover which is handy for transporting the machine around, keeping dust off it when in storage, and preventing children from playing with it unsupervised. The dust cover has a hole in the top to allow the machine handle to poke through. This is handy for transportation, but does mean that some dust can still get in. You can see the cover next to the machine in the photo below. The Janome 7025 with its hard cover You can store your accessories in the storage bed, but it is rather small so you won't be able to get too much else in there. Conclusion The Janome 7025 is a good, robust machine, which offers a wide range of stitches for a mechanical machine. It is suitable for both beginners and experienced sewers. It is very similar to the Janome 525S machine, so you may also want to have a read of our Janome 525S review. Let me know what you think of it in the comments below.Rebekah Reply Alexandra F says: April 10, 2018 at 9:42 pm Hi Rebekah. You can drop the feed dogs on this machine, but it doesn’t come with a free motion foot so you would have to purchase one separately. Are these machines so similar that it doesn’t matter I have received this, or do I definitely need a booklet for the 7025. Reply Alexandra F says: August 27, 2018 at 8:15 am Hi Cathy, These machines are basically identical, so the booklet for the 525S should have everything you need in it. Is this repairable? What do you suggest I do. I bought from JOhn Lewis. Reply Picasso says: October 23, 2019 at 3:47 pm I’m looking for a spare bobbin holder so that I can adjust the tension for double needle sewing on knits without losing the original tension setting. (I know that I am a wimp but I’m scared to touch it!) I’ve just phoned Janome UK (0161 666 6011) and they have said that the 7025 and the 525s are the same. (I asked this before I told them what I was looking for.

) Reply Clo Wing says: October 23, 2018 at 9:00 am I’m looking to get an extension table for my 7025, but I can’t seem to find one that says it will fit that machine. Do you know if there is one that will fit. Reply Alexandra F says: October 23, 2018 at 8:12 pm Hi Clo. There are definitely extension tables out there that would fit, and you should be able to find some online. You could also try searching for an extension table for the Janome 525S, as I’m pretty sure it would also fit the 7025. The dial on the left hand side of the machine does not appear in my manual. Reply Alexandra F says: November 20, 2018 at 12:41 am Hi Linda, The manual for the 7025 which is available on the John Lewis website has instructions for using the dial on the left hand side of the machine to adjust the presser foot pressure. Reply Denise Johnson says: February 4, 2019 at 12:01 pm Hi I haven’t sewn in years but am looking to take it up again and learn to make light weight curtains and blinds. Currently looking and torn between the Janome 7025 and the Janome Decor Excel 20. The hard cover and needle threaded and handle is a bonus. There is a little price difference between the two but not a lot. Can anyone comment on which machine I should go for. Reply Beth says: March 20, 2019 at 1:52 pm Would you mind telling me whether this particular model has a light by the needle. Many thanks Reply Picasso says: October 23, 2019 at 3:44 pm Hi Beth. There’s a light just above the needle. I’ve had my 7025 for a few years now and it’s going strong but I did need to replace the bulb once. I bought a replacement in a set of two so now have a spare. I don’t know if they do LED spares but will be looking next time I need to buy another. Reply Irene says: April 26, 2020 at 10:41 am I have just received this machine. Thank you for all your advice ?? Reply Gill Morrison says: July 6, 2020 at 4:34 pm I tried to turn the pressure foot guide and it is now pushed in and not flush with the machine. Can anyone help me please. I assume it shouldn’t be and it won’t come out. Reply Barbara says: August 3, 2020 at 8:30 am A very beginner question, but I can’t find the answer anywhere. I’m wondering what exactly the needles that come with this machine are. I’m wondering what these needles are best for (are they all universal. Or are any ball point?) and do I need to buy different needles if I want to hem jeans or work with fleece. Some fabrics leave a little stain from dye which needs to be cleaned with a damp cloth and mild soap before you forget! But it does need to be removed. SO much quicker and easier. This button pops the plate up in an instant and when your cleaning is done, just click it back on. Do you see the very centre is a little round part which looks like it might have lint stuck in it. See pic below. DO NOT REMOVE THIS. It is not lint or fluff. It is the wick for oil. Put ONE drop of good quality sewing machine oil onto this wick. The oil should NOT shlosh around all over like in a swimming pool. Oh no, then you have put way too much oil and you will have to mop it up with a paper towel. Just watch after putting ONE drop: You may see one little bubble come to the surface of the wick as the oil soaks down into the wick. If you repeat this important step often, 1 drop is all that will be needed. But if you are a bit lazy with this task, you may need to do 2 drops this time. When one or 2 bubbles have popped up, you have enough oil. If no bubbles, then the wick was probably quite moist enough. And the oil should not overflow the wick area. Ask your local Janome dealer to order you oneof these. This Janome bobbin thread is available from your local Janome dealer in large cones and smaller spools as well packets of prewound boobins: Well we hope so! Bookmark the permalink. What kind of oil do I use? They would be doing your regular servicing of your machine and could show where you need to oil and sell you the correct type of oil.

This blog post has a good amount of information on this except for the type of oil. The oil needs to be fine and suitable for sewing machines. One with a long narrow spout helps apply just a small amount to the machine. The wick is not in the book. Luckily my husband thought it was a wick and told me not to remove it until we checked. I tried doing the a chat on Janome with a technican but she didn’t understand what I was asking and I finally had to stop and try googling it again and found you. Janome North America also has a wonderful service where they can skype and actually show live to answer queries. They do this primarily with our Janome Dealers but, point is, this information is readily available. Cant see anything in the instruction book. Which is probably why there is not info on oiling in the manual. We advise you to have your machine cleaned, serviced and lubricated regularly by an Authorized Janome Dealer who will take care of this for you. Of course, we know many people do not follow this recommendation. A drop of oil in the wick is okay as long as it is a drop from time to time but it is not advisable to get any oil on the bobbin case and hook surfaces. When i bought my machine the dealer told me not to put oil either. So I would like to know if I should put oil or not in the skyline s9? I got the other message too! I cannot find them. Is there a secret compartment? Thanks Im sure it would be with theother accessories and I do remeber that it was in a little plastic bag. Please double check everything in your box. No secret compartment that I am aware of. Please contact your local Janome dealer where you purchased this machine for further assistance. I think of;my Horizon as a new car. So I should treat it as such. Very simialr principles apply! I have not oiled my 15000 yet but I have cleaned and brushed the bobbin area. If you use Janome pre-wounds for embroidery, you may not need the yellow dot bobbin case for embroidery.

The regular bobbin case with red mark may be fine. However, if you wind your own bobbin thread for embroidery, you will need to use the yellow dot bobbin case. That is a size 11. Our Janome red tip needle is a size 14. We have done blog posts on needles from time to time so you could do a search on janomelife home page for more info. Glad you love your Janome and keep it clean! Of course, we know many people do not follow this recommendation. He did tell me: A drop of oil in the wick is okay as long as it is a drop from time to time but it is not advisable to get any oil on the bobbin case and hook surfaces. Going to do it right now! I am currently using the Acufil on my Janome 15000 to quilt a king size quilt. I use a pipe cleaner in addition to a brush. The pipe cleaner picks up a lot of dust. Thanks for a great article. Good article! Is that little bobbin spot the only place we oil our precious hardworking Janome workhorse? Here are some of the most common issues sewers can run into on their Janome machine, and how to fix them so you can get back to your project ASAP. Raise the take-up lever manually by turning your handwheel toward you and “finishing” the stitch. Your fabric and threads should pull out of the machine with ease now, as you are at the end of a stitch cycle. The feed dogs can’t pull the fabric through the machine without the foot down on top of them. When they try, it causes the machine to make a loud sound and the thread jams around the fabric, making a big mess. If it’s threaded correctly (and the presser foot is down on top of the feed dogs), it’s likely your machine is set to the “free-motion” or “darning” set, which disables the feed dogs. For starters, your threads could be too short, or they weren’t under the presser foot upon starting to sew. This would allow the thread to be pulled out of the needle as the machine sews. When that happens, the machine tries to finish the stitch when you start sewing, sometimes unthreading the needle because it’s in the middle of the stitch’s cycle.

If it isn’t, turn the handwheel toward you and finish the stitch until the take-up lever is as high as it will go. Then pick up the presser foot and pull your project from the machine. If not, re-thread the machine properly and try again. If the thread from the bobbin isn’t going into the tension area on the bobbin casing or in the drop-in bobbin tension area, then loose and loopy stitches can happen. Refer to your manual for the suggested setting if you’re unsure what the automatic setting is. It’s likely that when threading your machine, you accidentally threaded the spool through the bobbin winding tension at the top of the machine. If everything’s correct and you’re still having these issues, try the troubleshoot below. Most of the time the machine sews best on the “automatic” setting, but many new sewers think they need to move this dial a lot. The reality is you can totally leave it alone on this basic setting. As always, make sure the needle is the correct type and size for your fabric. How do I fix this? I am now 71. My issues with threading problems are not due to inexperience. This is my first, and probably last, Janome. The thread continually hops out of the take-up lever. This has never occurred cured with my Singer and White machines. My 6500 is a challenge every time. Very disappointed ??. I love mine! It’s a work horse. In fact I have the 6300,2-6500,6600 and the newer one 6700. Live all of them! The thread must be jumping out of the take up lever. I have noticed if I use cheap polyester thread, it’s floppy or droopy enough (or for some other mysterious reason)to stay on the hook. Very frustrating. I’m not sure how to remedy this problem! I am having a problem with the stop motion knob on the hand wheel. It will not move like it is frozen. Can you please help?
